Story 38
George Burns - In the early '60s, I was working the main entrance at our state fair at which George Burns was appearing. The afternoon before his performance, a huge limo rolled up to the gate. As the driver's window descended, I leaned down to determine how many tickets would be required for the occupants. The driver and two other adult males said in unison: "George Burns!" and all pointed to a small man sitting in the back of the limo. I immediately recognized Mr. Burns with his trademark cigar, although he was without his toupee or makeup and appeared to be about 90 years old in this condition. (This was long before he actually reached that age.) He smiled and waved his cigar without saying a word, and I responded by motioning the driver through the gate.
